CardScan 500, 600c, 600cx, Personal (60) or 700c Could Not be Detected Through USB Interface

Error Message:

"No scanner could be detected. Make sure that your scanner is plugged in and properly connected to your PC".

"Could not complete your request because the scanner could not be locatedů"


Cause:

Scanner connected before installing CardScan software

Connecting scanner to a docking station or external usb hub during initial device installation

Stopping device installation at Windows Logo Warning dialog

Problems occurred installing device driver


Solution:

Installing the Device Driver - Windows XP

  1. Click the Windows Start Button and Select Run. Key-enter 'Devmgmt.msc' and click OK
  2. In Device Manager, the CardScan scanner should be listed as an 'Unknown Device' or 'USB Device!' with a red or yellow warning symbol on it
  3. Right-click on this device and choose Update Driver
  4. Choose to "Install the software automatically (recommended)" and click Next
  5. The Next screen should show a list of compatible drivers. Select the driver from the CardScan CD and click Next
  6. Click "Continue Anyway" if a Windows Logo Warning dialog opens
  7. Complete the device installation and close the Device Manager
  8. Start CardScan and setup the scanner

Installing the Device Driver - Windows 2000

  1. Click the Windows Start Button and Select Run. Key-enter 'Devmgmt.msc' and click OK
  2. In Device Manager, the CardScan scanner should be listed as an 'Unknown Device' or 'USB Device!' with a red or yellow warning symbol on it
  3. Right-click on the 'Unknown Device' or 'USB Device' with the red or yellow warning symbol / Select Properties / Driver / Update or Re-install driver
  4. Choose to search for a suitable driver / Click Next
  5. Choose to specify the location of the driver
  6. Specify the location of the driver as the CardScan directory on the CD. Use the Browse option to locate it (Example: D:\CardScan, if D is the CD drive).
  7. Complete the wizard
  8. Open CardScan and run the Scanner Setup Wizard (Tools menu / Scanner Setup Wizard)

Installing the Device Driver - Windows 98 and ME

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop / Choose Properties
  2. Select the Device Manger tab
  3. The CardScan scanner should show up as an 'Unknown Device' or USB Device with a red or yellow warning symbol on it
  4. Right-click this device and choose Remove / Confirm the action, when prompted
  5. Click the Refresh button to re-install the driver. Windows 98 or ME should build the driver information and install the driver correctly.
  6. If the driver does not install successfully, open the conflicted device in device manager and select the driver tab. Choose to re-install the device driver.
  7. During the device installation, specify the location of the driver from the CardScan directory on the Installation CD (example: D:\CardScan, if D is the CD drive)

Notes:

  • If CardScan was installed as an upgrade or download, the latest device drivers may not automatically install during the software installation. To install the latest device driver, open the Device Manager and find the CardScan Scanner (listed as Imaging Device or Universal Serial Bus Controllers) / Update the driver for this device / During this process, specify location of the device driver from the directory that the installation files extracted to (C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temp\CardScan, by default)

  • USB Devices are not supported on Windows 95 and Windows NT

  • If an error message occurs during the installation of the device, verify the USB port is functioning correctly by connecting another USB device

  • Connecting the CardScan scanner to a docking station or usb hub may cause problems or error messages during the device installation. Connect the scanner directly to the onboard usb port when installing the scanner's device driver
