1. What are the system requirements for Cardscan for Mac?
You’ll need Mac OS X 10.5.3+ (Leopard). CardScan for Mac was designed for Macs running on Intel processors.

2. Does CardScan for Mac have the same features as the Windows version?
CardScan for Mac was built from the ground-up to optimize features on the Mac OS including Address Book. The user interface looks and functions differently from Windows, yet offers many of the same benefits. There are several Windows features that CardScan for Mac does not offer at this time:
  • de-duplication wizard when cards are scanned
  • one-click label printing to DYMO Labelwriter printers
  • CardScan At Your Service online services (coming soon!)
  • Suspected errors are shown in the notes field, but are not highlighted as they are in the Windows version
3. How does drag-and-drop work?
CardScan for Mac lets you consolidate contact information from all kinds of electronic documents, email signatures and web sites in one step using drag-and-drop.

Open CardScan for Mac. You will want to adjust the window so that it can sit alongside the application or document from which you want to extract the contact information.

Highlight the entire area of contact data that you want, click and drag the mouse over the list area of the CardScan window (under the alphabet bar) and release. A complete contact record will be created. Verify that the information is correct.

Note: From some applications, notably from a browser, you may need to hold down the command key (as you click and drag) to select the contact data.

4. How do I scan a card?
Once your software is installed and your scanner is connected, the blue arrow light on the scanner indicates that it’s ready to scan. The scanner has been set to detect and scan cards automatically as soon as a card is inserted.

Insert cards width-wise – you will find that a standard business card fits perfectly in the feeder area. Push the card until the motor starts and the feeder takes the card. For portrait style (vertical orientation) cards, you can insert the card width-wise and CardScan will automatically rotate it, OR you can insert it with the narrow end.

5. What scanner is included with CardScan for Mac?
The scanner included in CardScan Executive for Mac is a color scanner that is identical to the one included with the CardScan Executive system (also known as ‘Version 8’).

6. Where can I buy Cardscan for Mac?
All versions of CardScan Executive will now include software for Mac OS. If you purchase CardScan for Mac in the purple box, software for both Mac and Windows is included in the box. If you purchase CardScan Executive in the standard box, the Windows software is included and you may download (free) the Mac OS software from the CardScan web site using your serial number.

7. How does CardScan for Mac synchronization work?
CardScan for Mac can be set up to automatically sync to Address Book. In Preferences, select Synchronization and tell Address Book where your CardScan data file is located. Click OK. If your data file has a password, you will be prompted to enter it, and you may also be prompted to allow keychain access.

Once you synchronize to Address Book, you can sync your iPhone, iPod, MobileMe or other software to Address Book to keep contacts identical across all your devices and applications.

8. Are there other ways to share contact data with other programs?
If you only want to share selected contacts with Address Book, use Export To (File menu). Select the contacts you want to share with Address Book by highlighting them. Select Address Book. You can apply settings for your export to deal with duplicate contact information; create a duplicate, skip the card, or resolve the duplicate by either applying the CardScan data, or keeping the Address book data.

You can also use Export To VCards to share contact data with other software such as Entourage. In Preferences, select Export and choose the format for vCards.

9. How do I scan a stack of business cards at once?
To scan more than one card at a time, you can “Batch Scan”. From the Card menu, select Batch Scan. Feed the cards into the scanner one at a time.

If you want all the cards in the batch to be assigned to the same category or to have the same notes, you can select that before you start scanning by clicking “Options” in the Batch Scanning window. Type in notes, or select one or more categories that will be assigned to all the cards in the scanned batch.

Click Process Now if you are done, or click Process Later if want to scan more cards later or if you want to add more notes and categories to these cards later.

10. Does the scanner need to be connected to CardScan software to use the software?
If you are not scanning business cards, you do not need to have the scanner connected to your computer to use the non-scanning features of the CardScan software.
