CardScan is great for organizing contacts and I like the flexibility with assigning categories and sorting. It makes uploading data lists very easy into a variety of formats.
The only issue I have with the personal unit software is the following: when I'm done with a batch of cards I cannot keep it plugged in to the PC because the Scan Card window keeps popping up. Every time I close it, it annoyingly pops back on the screen. So, the machine has to be unplugged immediately after any scans, otherwise it just keeps running.

I use this product to compile potential customer data and having that information readily availible. I can push that information to the corporate level as well as document custoemr contacts and meetings with the time stamp feature. The categorization and custom feaure allows me to add categories that alow me to easily seporate out information that I need. I can manage my protential and existing customer base. I import the contact info to outlook and sync it with my Palm trio700wx phone. My cards are then dropped into a shoe box. This prouct is a must for outside sales staff who are on the road. Compiling data doesn't get much easier. The only want for this system is a reiept reader to compile business reciepts and organize them for end of year taxes.

Cardscan is a nice compact product that does one job really well -- it scans business cards and tries really hard to bring contact information into your contact product. It presents them nicely for verification. No OCR is as good as the human eye, but CardScan has done a great job. I would like CardScan not to try so hard to get my contact information on the net since they will contact my contacts for "verification" purposes. I strongly prefer not to have this happen. I would gladly recommend CardScan to my contacts myself, however.
Also, it would be great if CardScan had some fuzzy logic to allow merging of contact databases while removing duplicates from Outlook and other PIMs.
Support is great and personal over email in this day and age of virtually no support. They allow you to contact them without wading through a number of screens.

I was very skeptical, but had a few colleagues recommend the card scanner. I had several HUNDREDS of business cards of people I needed to notify that I had changed jobs (and see if I could be of service to them in my new position). I bought the personal version because of the lower price and am so impressed that I now wish I had gotten the business version. It reads 100 percent of cards that are plain text. Anything fancy or with flourishes sometimes has a few characters that need to be edited. The software is great - I love the categories, as I have sent out bulk emails by pulling the categories I have assigned to my people. I am going to use it for family holiday cards and labels as well!
