Press Release COREX TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES NEW CARDSCAN EXECUTIVE, Cambridge, MA—September 13, 2004: Corex Technologies today introduced a significantly enhanced and completely redesigned version of CardScan® Executive, the best-selling business card reader in the market according to the NPD Group/NPD Techworld, which is 50 percent faster, lighter and smaller than its predecessor and incorporates numerous significant new features and user-requested improvements. CardScan Executive scans and uploads data from a business card into the appropriate fields of a database without typing. It gives even the most demanding users the ability to incorporate and update contact information into all leading contact management programs such as Outlook® and synchronizes data to multiple electronic devices including Palm™, Pocket PCs, Blackberrys and smartphones. The company also added a new model to the CardScan family, the CardScan Personal, specifically designed for users with basic needs in contact management. According to Corex’s own research, an average user who accumulates 30 cards each month over a three-year period spends 30 hours or nearly four full work days typing contact information into address books or PDAs. “We have confidently extended our market leadership through the changes and improvements we’ve made to our CardScan product line,” said Peter J. Weyman, president of Corex Technologies. “Our world-class development team has been perfecting our proprietary technology for more than ten years making it even easier to use. Now users can choose the CardScan model that best fits their needs while still enjoying the high levels of accuracy, speed and functionality they have come to expect from their CardScan.” Increased Productivity with Low Cost of Ownership CardScan Executive’s completely redesigned user interface builds on a user’s familiarity with standard contact management systems and adds a number of improvements that make it easier to use. These include displaying a list of contacts and individual information on the CardScan address screen at the same time, providing a larger footprint for the business card image and adding tabs at the top of the screen which show different views including list, edit and summary. By applying CardScan’s proprietary interpretive scanning technology, CardScan Executive has attained improved accuracy correcting over 21 percent more optical character recognition errors when compared to earlier versions. CardScan Executive also includes a new card correction utility that highlights the fields it suspects may contain errors, an improved installer that automatically uninstalls previous versions and preserves settings, and an improved “find duplicate” wizard. CardScan reads business cards from 13 countries. English, French, German and Spanish versions of the user interface are available. CardScan Executive works with all popular contact management systems including Outlook®, ACT!™, Notes®, and GoldMine®. It is compatible with Palm™ handhelds, Pocket PCs, BlackBerrys (through selected databases) and smartphones. It includes CardScan.net which allows users to save their contact information to a secure remote CardScan site. This ensures that users never lose important information and data is always accessible from the web. It also includes the firm’s AccuCard service which keeps contact information up to date via automatic quarterly updates. CardScan Executive is USB-powered so that a separate power supply is not needed and it is USB 2.0-certified. It includes a one-year warranty. CardScan Executive is available immediately in the U.S. and Canada at the price of (U.S) $249.99. “I am incredibly more organized with CardScan; given that time is money, I am significantly more productive. CardScan is an outstanding tool,” said Seth Diamond, a financial advisor at a major US investment firm. “CardScan has definitely saved me time. The big benefit is that it’s a capability that I use constantly. I’ll have a stack of business cards and [with CardScan] they immediately go into my computer and into my Palm. It’s a habit now and I wouldn’t want to live without it,” said Jeff Hirschman, Engineering Manager at Cisco. CardScan Personal is the firm’s newest member of the CardScan family emanating from the same proprietary technology base as the company’s CardScan Executive and provides the same high level of accuracy and reliability. It was developed specifically for users with basic needs in contact management. The monochrome card reader saves to the same CardScan address book and synchronizes with Outlook, Palm handhelds, pocket PCs and smartphones. It weighs less than half a pound and is ten percent smaller than the CardScan Executive. CardScan Personal includes a 90-day trial of CardScan.net and AccuCard service, is USB certified and is fully backed by a one-year warranty. CardScan Personal is priced at (U.S) $149.99 and is available immediately in the U.S. and Canada. Both products run on Microsoft Windows, XP, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows 98 or later, a Pentium processor or later, 64 MB of RAM and 90MB of free hard disk space for a minimum installation and 120MB for a full installation. Corex products are available at major office retailers such as Office Depot, Office Max, Staples and CompUSA, authorized resellers or directly from Corex at www.cardscan.com.
